This year we salute Elwood Haynes, who was not only an acclaimed inventor but also the first principal of Portland High School. If you're curious about Haynes' life in Portland, you can learn more by checking out the attached map of Portland with places of interest noted. In addition, you can see one of the cars he produced up close at the Jay County Chamber of Commerce. This rare vehicle is visible through the window, but the Chamber has agreed to open the building between 10 and 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 20 before the alumni banquet. The chamber office is located at 118 S. Meridian St.
